Homecoming 2015 - Cara's Freshman Year - Part I

This weekend was Homecoming at Norfolk Catholic.  It was a week filled with themed dress up days, the volleyball scrimmage, the cross country time trials and the first football game.
After the football game on Friday night, Cara and I came home to put her hair in rollers to get a jump start on her hair for Saturday night.  It took over an hour to get her hair all rolled up.  Cara had a group of girls taking out her rollers while I was working on Emma's hair and Ashlin was playing photographer.
Then Saturday afternoon I started doing hair for Cara and her friend, Emma.  They both had photos of the hairdos that they wanted.  The photos were on their phones and so tiny that I could hardly see them.  I told the girls that I first needed a larger photo and that I could make no promises how their hair would turn out, but I would try my best.
Cara wanted long and curly with her sides and bangs pulled back.

Emma wanted her bangs braided to the side and then a curly messy bun at the nape of her neck.
After doing hair for two hours, I took the girls over to Charlie's house to get dressed with some other classmates.  Charlie's Mom and I curled Charlie's hair since together since she was running behind.
Then the girls were ready for a few snapshots before heading out for the evening of fun.

Take care,
Michelle

Lady Knight Volleyball Scrimmage

It is almost time volleyball season to start.  This is Cara's favorite season.  The girls have their first game next week at home.
The girls have been practicing for a few weeks.  Most days the practices run for about 3 1/2 hours.
The volleyball teams had their scrimmage this week.  The reserve and JV mixed teams played two sets and then the varsity and JV mixed played two sets.
Cara did have problems picking a number to be for the season.  She ended up with #15 which was her third choice.  First, she wanted to be #8, but another girl really wanted that number so Cara gave it up.  Then, she picked #18 and lost to another girl in rock/paper/scissors for that number.  Cara really wanted an even number, but settled for odd number 15.
There were good things going on but then also some not good things happening.  The girls are ready to start playing games.

NC only has five home games this year so we will be on the road quite a bit.

The fall sports addition came out in the paper last night and Cara was happy to see her name listed as a freshman on the roster and see the team photo in print.
One of the senior girls received a yellow card from an official during the varsity's first set, so, Cara did get to go in for three plays.  She was thrilled, but nervous to go in a varsity set.
Take care,
Michelle

Booster Club Hotdog Feed

Last Friday night was the Booster Club Hotdog Feed.  The event starts with the football scrimmage, then the hotdog feed, then a sportsmanship meeting and then the introduction of fall sport athletes.  Tradition is that the freshman class parents work the hotdog feed; therefore, Keith and I worked a shift.
 The volleyball team
Girls & Boys Cross Country Teams
 Girls Golf Team
The senior boys on the football team.  There are 62 boys out for football and were spread out all over the gym floor.

The girls golf team has already competed.  Football starts this Friday night and volleyball and cross country both start next week with competition.  Here's to a great fall season at Norfolk Catholic for all athletes.

Take care,
Michelle

Nick & Jamie's Wedding

A few weeks ago we attended my Godson, Nick's wedding.  Nick is my first cousin's oldest child.  This is the photo of Nick's family (his grandparents, parents and siblings).  It was a beautiful summer day for a wedding!

Nick and Jamie were high school sweethearts and started dating in the winter of 2009 and 6 years later they became husband and wife.  Jamie was a cheerleader and Nick was a wrestler and they met in the hall at Norfolk Public High School.
The night included a photo booth.  All the pictures taken in the photo booth are going to be made into a scrapbook for the bride and groom to remember all that attended the wedding.

Take care,
Michelle

Cara Turns 15!

Cara turned 15 years old on Tuesday!  It was a day of school, then volleyball practice, then eat supper, shower and homework.  Nothing really fun!
Usually when it is your birthday at our house, we go out to eat at the restaurant of  your choice.  But, not for this birthday.  Cara had practice until 7 p.m. and then had homework to complete.  She picked to get Sonic after practice and wanted a cherry cheesecake instead of cake.  Hopefully, this weekend, we can go out as a family.

Only one more year until she is able to drive!  She wants to get her Learner's Permit.  She even drove through a few car lots with Dad to look at cars.

Take care,
Michelle

First Day of School

The kids and I went back to school last Thursday!  I'm not sure if any of us were ready for summer to end, but it did.  We are actually almost a week ahead of when we usually start, but there had to be a few changes made to the school calendar for the year.
Cara had early morning volleyball conditioning every day last week.  She had to be in the gym at 6:15 a.m. on the first day of school and she refused to have her photo taken before leaving.  I snapped this as she was getting out of the car to head into the gym.
These three had their photo taken before leaving for school though.  Erica and Cara don't start wearing uniforms until Monday.
Justin was very excited when he found out that Mrs. Pfeifer was his 2nd Grade teacher.  She used to live two houses down the street from us!  Ashlin did tell him that if he screwed up and called her "Nicole" that they would make him pack up his stuff and move him next door to Mrs. Johnson's room to be straightened out.
Ashlin has Ms. Fintowski for 5th Grade.  Ms. Fintowski was super excited to have Ashlin in her room.  She also taught Erica in 5th Grade.
On the first day, school was only in session for a 1/2 day.  I made them all four pose for a photo when they got home from school.  This year we have two kids in each building - Cara-Freshman, Erica-7th Grade, Ashlin-5th Grade and Justin 2nd Grade.  I started my 6th year at Norfolk Catholic Elementary.

Yes, I did say that Cara is a Freshman and that Erica went off to Junior High.  Cara is gearing up for high school volleyball and Homecoming is right around the corner.

Here's to a GREAT school year,
Michelle

Charlie & Judy's 50th Celebration

Last weekend Keith's Uncle Charlie and Aunt Judy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with Mass, a dinner and a dance.  After Mass, Charlie and Judy were treated to a ride around town in this old car.
The catered ham and roast beef dinner was delicious.  After dinner, the family was introduced and a family video was shared.  Charlie and Judy have been blessed with seven children and 17 grandchildren.  Then, the dancing started!

At one point during the evening, the lights were turned on for some family photos.  The photo above is of Charlie with his siblings in attendance: Dan, Frannie, Ron, and Merina.  The photo below is the siblings with their spouses.

The kids played outside until dark and then came in to "cut a rug". Justin danced with Aunt Sharlene a few times.  He had a great time dancing!  He even asked me to dance.  Ashlin and Cara also danced, especially the line dances.  Erica told Keith that her dancing days ended when she quit dance class, so, she wouldn't dance with anyone.  (We'll see how long this point of view lasts about dancing.)
Charlie, Judy and their family threw a great party!  Hope they enjoy many more years together!

Take care,
Michelle

One Direction Concert

Emma, Cara, Erica & Anna
These four talked Keith into talking them to the One Direction Concert last week.  They have had the tickets since last October and the concert was last week in Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium.
They left Tuesday morning and headed to Kansas City.  Keith said the hotel they stayed at was all pre-teen and teenage girls going to the concert. The gates to the parking lot opened at 3:00 p.m., the gates to the stadium opened at 5:30 and the concert started at 7:00.  Parking was $30 at the venue (I thought this was a little overpriced)!
It was a very hot day!!! Keith told me it was 102 with a heat index of 110.  He was on water patrol with the girls making sure that no one got sick because of the heat.
Cara got out of the last two days of detasselling to go to the concert and she was so upset (Ha, Ha).

The girls all got t-shirts and even brought one home for Ashlin.  The attendance at the concert was around 55,000.  Keith said there were times that the high pitched screaming was so loud that it even hurt his ears (I find this totally unbelievable as loud as he listens to music).
The girls had such a great time dancing and singing along to one of their favorite bands.  Cara told me that Emma may have even cried when they took the stage.

Ashlin, Justin and I stayed home.  We went to the movies, out to eat, ran errands and hung low since Ashlin had just had her nose surgery.

Take care,
Michelle
