Cheetah Soccer

Ashlin is also playing YMCA 3-on-3 soccer this fall.  She gave up dance and her choice for a physical activity was soccer just like Erica.  Ashlin is on the Cheetah soccer team.  There shirts were supposed to be a bright orange, but the color is between orange and brown.
Ashlin hanging out with her teammates before the start of the game.  Ashlin hasn't played soccer since itty bitty soccer a few years ago.  She started out playing timid and wouldn't engage or confront other girls with the ball.  With each game, she is getting more aggressive and having a blast.
There are five girls on Ashlin's team.  In this photo Ashlin and Katy are waiting for their turn to play.
This was right after Ashlin scored her first goal of the night.
Ready to receive the kick-off from the opposing team.
Ashlin scoring her 2nd goal of the night.   Who wouldn't love soccer if you were scoring goals?
Go Ashlin Go!

Barracuda Soccer

We have a rule at our house that you must participate in a physical activity.  Therefore, when all three girls decided to not go back to dance this fall, they all had some activity choices to make.  Erica chose to play soccer again.  She played when she was in 1st grade, but did not play last year.  This year she is back playing 3-on-3 soccer at the YMCA.
Erica is a member of the Red Barracuda team at the YMCA.  She plays on a team of 5 girls ranging from 3rd-5th Grade.

I think this photo is right before she scored a goal, but I'm not sure.  I do know that she scored a goal in this game.

Babysitter for Hire

Since turning 11 years old Cara could not wait to take this class.  We told her that if she wanted to babysit for other families then she must take this class so that she knew about being responsible and safe when doing the job.

On Sunday, Cara took a babysitting training class at the YMCA.  For six hours she learned some CPR for children and babies.  She learned how to feed a baby and change a diaper.  She learned how to be a responsible babysitter.  Now she is ready for someone to hire her to watch their children.

Take care,
Michelle

Favorite Author

John Grisham has been my favorite author for years.  When he has a new book published, I cannot wait to read it.  It is very hard for me to put one of his books down once I start to read it.

Last year at the library I noticed that John Grisham had written a children's book titled, Theodore Boone Kid Lawyer.  I told Cara that we had to read it together.  At first she was not very excited about reading a book that I recommended.  But, once we started reading she was hooked on the story line, the way the book was written and trying to guess what was going to happen next
A few weeks ago I noticed that John Grisham had written another pre-teen book titled, Theodore Boone the abduction.  We were out shopping one day and I pointed the sequel out to Cara.  She definitely wanted to spend some of her birthday money on purchasing the book.

Last week we finished reading the book and it definitely did not disappoint either one of us.  I wasn't surprised that John Grisham would write about lawyers, but I was surprised that he could write down at a level for kids Cara's age to understand.  We enjoyed reading the book together and discussing it.

Now Cara is waiting for the next book in the series.  I hope he writes more.

Michelle

3 year old humor

Yesterday Justin and I were home all day together.  I didn't have work because school was only in session until lunch time, so, we were hanging out at home together.  We made chocolate chip cookies, put up some fall decorations, did laundry, etc.

At one point, I was in the laundry room folding clothes and Justin came to find me.  Following is how our conversation went:

Justin:  Mom, I have a joke for you.
Me:  Okay, what is your joke.
Justin:  Knock, Knock.
Me:  Who's there?
Justin:  Justin.
Me:  Justin who?
Justin:  Justin Henry Leader.

At this point in the conversation, he turns around and leaves the room giggling.  I could then hear him say, "That was so funny!" with another giggle.

I'm not sure where he came up with this joke from and I didn't even know that he knew what a joke was.  I know this joke is not funny, but to his 3 year old mind it was very funny.

I wonder what he will come up with today?

Take care,
Michelle

Blast from the past

As a pre-teen or a teenager, do you remember buying the magazines "Teen BOP" or "Teen Star"?
I had totally forgotten about these magazines until a few weeks ago when I was out shopping with our three daughters and two of the neighborhood girls and Cara asked if she could spend some of her money on buying a few of these magazines.
The posters from these magazines have now made their way unto the walls and bulletin boards of all three of the girls.  They have hung up their favorites!  I remember lining the walls of my bedroom as a teenager with posters of my teen idols.  Too bad my daughters have no clue who the actors and singers are that lined my bedroom walls.
Cara had a hard time believing that I used to buy those same kinds of magazines when I was her age.  Some things never change!

Take care,
Michelle
